Audio RD

I first was unsure what I would interview people about for my audio story. I did not want to make the interview seem self-centered since my blog theme is “about me.” I am a proud student of Washington State University and I finally realized that I share that with almost every student here on campus. I decided to interview two of my close friends, Caroline and Jane, who are are both in my sorority and are a year above me. I interviewed Caroline first and focused mainly on what she likes about Washington State University and asked her if she is happy to be a student here. Then I interviewed my friend Jane and asked her more about her degree, her aspirations, and why she applied to Washington State University. I think I was able to cover all the bases I was hoping to when putting together this audio story. I made an overall introduction to my project, my interview with Caroline, and my interview with Jane. Since I have a Window computer I used the sound recorder application to record all of my introductions. For the interviews I used my Iphone voice memo application because it was able to capture two voices better than the sound recorder. I imported the interviews and introduction into my multitrack document and pieced my audio story together accordingly. The tools I mainly utilized were the razor tool to cut out blank spaces and “ums” to make transitions smoother. I also used the fade in and fade out tool to also smooth the transitions. I did not put a song behind my interview at this point because I am still unclear about where to find a song that is not copyrighted and didn’t want to get my heart set on a song that I could potentially not be able to end up using.

  1. Hey Regan, I really liked your rough draft. I thought it was cool how you interviewed your friends and asked them questions about why they chose Washington State University. I also interviewed two of my friends and asked them about what they thought of their current schools. You were very clear when asking your questions and your friends responses were also easy to understand. A few things that I think could help you with your final draft are to add a closing statement and possibly some background music. By adding a closing statement it will give the viewer a clear understanding that the interview is over. If you added some music in the background I think that you would really like how it sounds. Make sure that if you do add music that you are still able to hear your interview clearly. With that being said I think you have an awesome draft to work with.

  2. Hello Regan!

First off I love how you interviewed two of your friends, and gave it a little more depth than having just one interview would. I also liked how you made it sort of a conversation. My suggestions for you would be to go back and listen to a couple more times and try to get out all of the “um’s” and “uh’s”, because those make it sound less professional and it like we are not getting to the main points! I would also suggest to maybe try and have your first friend answer just a few more questions, because I feel like we did not really get to hear what she had to say as much! Lastly, I think it would be really good if you could re-record your own talking when you are talking in between the interviews so that your voice is just a little bit more precise and solid. After those couple of improvements I think you would have a very successful final audio story!

  3. To myself, I think I did a good job on my introduction by introducing my topic and what I was talking about. Although I did okay on my introduction I do know that I need to add a conclusion to tie my entire story together instead of leaving it open-ended. With my conclusion I will also tie in how my friend’s college experiences relate to my experience at Washington State University. Another thing I know I need to do is to cut out the “umms” in my interview and the little moments of silence to make my piece flow better. I was not sure how to add music to my piece so I never added music out of fear of copyright. I need to add music to my story to give it more appeal and to make it sound more professional. For being so intimidated by this project I think I did fairly well and am confident that I will be able to produce a good end product.

  4. Hi Regan! I loved your audio draft and your explanation as to why you focused on why people like WSU. You did a great job keeping the interviews flowing smoothly and I think you have a great product here. My advice to you is to ask your friend Caroline one more question. The interviews are unbalanced since the audio is focused mainly on Jane. Another thing I would work on is the voice levels. Sometimes you are super quite and other times you are super loud. I have this exact same problem with my audio draft so I have yet to give you advice on how to fix this but it may be something you want to look into. Another thing you could add in is why you went here. Just a short 15 second explanation as to why you love WSU and then relate your love to Caroline’s and Jane’s. That part is just a suggestion; it may make your audio too long. Overall I think that your interview is great and I can’t wait to hear the final product!

  5. Hi Regan! I like what you have here. It’s a very good first draft and I think that you will be able to shape a final draft that definitely satisfies what you are trying to say. I like that you found a topic that was important to you and related to your topic but was still different than talking about yourself for two minutes. However, I think that in the second interview you turned the focus toward your friend rather than what you wanted to say about WSU. You could ask her a few more questions like what her favorite memories at WSU have been. Or you could ask your first friend a few more questions. Overall, I think that you did a good job and I think your final draft will be great.
